Learn about all the upcoming classes NIACC has to offer, hear from HSED instructor, Lifelong Learning director, Advisory Board Members, and the Community Education Coordinator/Program Planner. Feel free to ask questions and give us ideas for what you would like to see happening for future classes in our community! Do you know of someone who would like to teach? We can give you information regarding the steps to becoming a NIACC Community Education instructor!
The NIACC Charles City Center opened in 1975 in a rental space on Main Street and moved to its current home by HyVee in 1988. The Charles City Chamber of Commerce endorsed the establishment of a permanent NIACC campus in Charles City and provided leadership toward that goal. Voters in the NIACC district overwhelmingly approved renewal of the NIACC plant fund levy in the late 1980s, providing the necessary resources to purchase and remodel the building.
In addition to Continuing and Community Education classes, the Center is utilized for Adult Literacy (HSED and ESL) classes, business and industry training, and meeting space for local clubs and organizations.
We currently have two full-time employees on staff. Dr. Robert Mulcahy, our HSED and ESL instructor, who also teaches many Community Education classes, such as Russian Cooking, various Computer Classes, and our Wednesday Night Book Club! Our Community Education Coordinator and CCP (Certified Program Planner), Wendi Coen-Ward, who is the other full-time employee, will be happy to meet with you in person, by email, or phone, to help or discuss anything you may want to see NIACC having here or answer any questions you may have.
