A new 5K is coming to New Hampton this year as friends and family of the late Brittney Heying will remember her & others who have died from suicide with an event titled: “Their Fight is Our Fight” on Friday, April 30th.
The run/walk will begin and end at New Hampton’s Mikkelson Park and scheduled for 6pm on the date that would have been Brittney’s 24th birthday.
The entry fee is $25 by April 20, and a t-shirt is included. The fee after April 20th is $35. Those 12 and under will be allowed to run or walk for free, and t-shirts will also be available at Screenprints.
To register, visit the group’s Facebook page @ThierFightisOurFightNHIA, the Chickasaw Wellness Complex, the New Hampton Parks and Recreation office & Office World. The event will include a Silent Auction and a light supper will be served for a free will donation after the race. The Silent Auction and supper are open to the public.
Organizers are also putting together a memorial video. Anyone who would like to contribute a photo of a loved one lost to suicide, along with an essay (up to 100 words) please submit both to: firstname.lastname@example.org
All proceeds will be donated to local organizations that promote mental health and suicide prevention awareness.
