Increasing Police Officer Pay in New Hampton a Work in Progress

With hourly wages currently averaging $2 to $3 less than neighboring police departments, the City of New Hampton is trying to work quickly to raise officer pay.

Down one officer who recently left the force for another police department and with another on medical leave, the City Council this week moved forward with efforts to increase pay for recruitment as well as their current officers.

That’s Mayor Bobby Schwickerath, who notes that the officers they do have have been working hard to cover the shortage.

New Hampton Police is looking to hire one full-time peace officer with applications being accepted through July 22nd.
