Chickasaw County Public Ambulance Continues in Holding Pattern

A Chickasaw County public ambulance service is still “stuck in the garage.”

The Chickasaw County Ambulance Council met Tuesday night to find out which cities in the county are in and who’s out in providing financial support for the ambulance. Nashua representative Samantha Johnson says the numbers currently don’t work for their city’s participation.

Johnson says Nashua could be in if an ambulance was stationed in Nashua and their financial contribution was reduced.

Fredericksburg Mayor Jimmy Mitchell said they’re in, but worried that if Nashua was out, would the other cities have to pay more. He says the uncertainty is another example of previous CCAC meetings.

Supervisor Matt Kuhn, the County’s representative on the CCAC, echoed the time crunch in setting a joint meeting for next Tuesday night between the CCAC and the Board of Supervisors.

The County is pushing to start the public ambulance by January 1, 2023, since their contract with private provider, Jeremy McGrath and Chickasaw Ambulance Services, expires December 31st. At Monday’s Supervisors meeting, Board Chair Matt Kuhn read a letter from McGrath who reiterated his position that he would not extend the agreement beyond the end of the year.
