Mason City Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash Near Nora Springs

One person was killed in a two-vehicle, head-on crash late Monday night in north Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Monday near the intersection of 265th Street and Yarrow Avenue, just west of Nora Springs. A Nissan Altima driven by 58-year-old Timothy Hoy of Charles City was eastbound on 265th when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the westbound Pontiac G5 driven by 41-year-old Stephen Miles of Mason City.

Authorities say the Miles vehicle went into the ditch while Hoy’s vehicle was struck by a third vehicle, whose driver was not identified. Miles was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two juveniles in the Miles vehicle were also injured in the crash, 17-year-old Tyler Miles and 16-year-old Jackson Gobeli, both of Mason City. They were transported by ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Nora Springs First Responders and Mason City EMS also responded to the scene.
