New NIACC Charles City Career Academy, Old Location
In the end, the new NIACC Career Academy in Charles City will be built on familiar ground.
When the Career Academy was announced, it was going to be built on the Floyd County Fairgrounds, but rising construction costs forced officials to consider additional options. NIACC President Steve Schulz says those options included the former Kmart building.
However, Schulz has informed City leaders that they have settled on expanding the current NIACC Center location in Charles City.
Schulz told our news department that, after considering all the locations, he has no problem with the final decision.
Schulz says they’ll begin work on architectural plans for the career academy with hopes of bidding for construction yet this year. However, having the center ready by the start of the 2023-24 school year is probably not realistic.
