Charles City Fire Department to Test Agility of Potential Firefighters

Potential volunteer firefighters can test their agility Saturday at the Charles City Fire station.

Chief Eric Whipple says participants will perform various firefighting tasks including swinging an ax and manning a fire hose.

Whipple says the agility test will be strictly a pass/fail score with those passing qualifying for an interview. He adds that qualities of a firefighter goes beyond one’s physical abilities.

Those interested in taking the agility test must be 18 years of age, a US citizen, reside within Charles City or St. Charles Township, and have a current valid driver’s license. Comfortable, athletic-type attire and tennis shoes are recommended. Agility testing starts at 10 a.m. with arrival by 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
