North Iowa Law Enforcement Encourages Super Bowl Sunday Driving Safety

Law enforcement agencies across Iowa are encouraging Super Bowl fans to “Be a Team Player, Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.”

Trooper Tom Williams with the Mason City District of the Iowa State Patrol says its the latest Special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP).

Local law authorities will also be involved this Sunday, including the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, with Sheriff Ryan Shawver cautioning Super Bowl revelers that it doesn’t take as much drinking as you think to impact your driving.

Shawver adds that there are many ways to avoid drinking and driving.

The Charles City Police Department and Howard County Sheriff’s Offices are also participating in the sTEP program on Super Bowl Sunday.

According to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), 35% of Iowa’s fatal crashes in 2022 involved an impaired driver.
