New Hampton, Waukon Bound for Upper Iowa Conference Starting 2025-26

New Hampton will make the move to the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC).

The Chickasaws have been invited to leave the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) to join the UIC starting with the 2025-26 school year. During a community meeting last week, New Hampton School Board member Adam Schwickerath said the consensus of those present was to accept the UIC invitation.

Monday (02.19) night, the School Board unanimously approved Schwickerath’s motion to accept the invitation and have Superintendent Jay Jurrens submit their official application to join the UIC starting with the 2025-26 season.

Waukon has also been invited to leave the NEIC to join the UIC, with the Allamakee Community School Board voted to make the move UIC at their meeting Tuesday (02.20) night.

Two weeks ago, the UIC voted to add Cresco-Crestwood to the league, with the Cadets now set to depart the NEIC after the 2024-25 season.

Last week, Charles City also set the wheels in motion to leave the NEIC when the School Board voted to apply to join the North Central Conference starting with the 2025-26 school year.

Waverly-Shell Rock’s membership in the NEIC ends June 30th, meaning the NEIC will go with just five teams for the 2024-25 school year, expected to be the final go round for Iowa’s oldest athletic conference, established in 1920.
