DCI to Assist with Investigation of North Iowa Woman’s Death

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been called in to assist with investigating the death of a north Iowa woman whose body was found floating in a river about five miles northeast of Manly.

The Worth County Sheriff’s Office was alerted Friday to a female body floating in the Shell Rock River near 390th Street and Raven Avenue. The body was recovered Friday afternoon and was identified as 45-year-old Melissa Jo Olson of Northwood.  

Law enforcement is seeking information from anyone who may have observed Olson, a white female with brown hair, approximately five- foot six-inches tall, walking in the area of Highway 65 and along 390th Street, between Manly and Northwood on Thursday, September 15th and/or into the morning hours of Friday, September 16th.

The Worth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene Friday by the Iowa DNR, the DCI, Iowa State Patrol, Worth County Emergency Management, Mason City Fire Department, Kensett Fire Department, and Worth County Secondary Roads Department.
