LOSST Revenue for New Hampton’s Portion of County Ambulance Not a New Tax

On the November 8th general election ballot, City of New Hampton citizens will be asked to approve redirecting revenue generated by its one-cent Local Option Sales and Service Tax (LOSST) to help pay for the City’s portion of a public ambulance service in Chickasaw County.

Mayor Bobby Schwickerath is also reminding constituents they will NOT be paying a new tax.

Schwickerath says the City currently generates about $500,000 a year with its one-cent LOSST and is looking to spend only enough from that funding stream to cover its ambulance obligations.

Schwickerath added the redirecting LOSST revenue is the efficient route to take since there is little time for a Plan B with the new ambulance slated to start January 1st.

New Hampton’s ambulance contribution to Chickasaw County is estimated to be about $356,000 a year for five years.
