Nora Springs Man Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder, Other Charges

A north Iowa man accused of attempted murder as well as firing a gun near a law enforcement officer is pleading not guilty.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old John Salocker of Nora Springs following a series of incidents the night of October 27th. According to court documents, Salocker got into an altercation at a female victim’s residence in Rudd and stated he was going to kill her.

Later in the night, authorities say Salocker took a rifle from his residence, got into his SUV and was headed back to the victim’s house when he came upon a traffic stop being conducted by a Floyd County Deputy involving the victim’s son, just after 10:30 p.m. Salocker is accused of then discharging a round from the rifle in their vicinity and driving off.

After a chase that reached 85 miles per hour, Salocker’s vehicle was found disabled about five miles northeast of Nora Springs.  A police K9 then led law enforcement to a harvested cornfield where Salocker was arrested.

Salocker Monday pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, a Class B felony; going armed with intent, assault on a police officer with a dangerous weapon and eluding, all Class D felonies; and first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor. 

No trial date has been set in Floyd County District Court..
