Plans for 2023 “Town of Colors” Murals in Charles City In the Works

The “Town of Colors” campaign in Charles City is entering its third year with plans in the works for the painting of new murals in 2023.

Mayor Dean Andrews told the Floyd County Board of Supervisors during their meeting on Monday, March 13, that the Charles City Arts Center has funding and grants for at least three new murals. One of which they’d like to paint on the south side of the new Floyd County Law Enforcement Center (LEC).

Floyd County EMS President Brandy Molitor told the Board the mural they’re proposing would honor emergency personnel and responders.

The “Town of Colors” program requires the owner of buildings to pay 10% of the mural’s cost. The LEC mural was estimated at $10,000, but Molitor says she would fundraise to cover the County’s $1,000 payment.

While Supervisors could take no action for or against the mural, Board Chair Mark Kuhn said the idea has strong merit.

Andrews says murals are also to be painted this year on the Furniture Barn on South Grand Avenue and on the Clark Street side of the Kloberdanz Insurance Office in downtown Charles City.
