Northeast Iowa Attempted Murder Suspects Plead Not Guilty

Both men charged with attempted murder in a northeast Iowa shooting last month have pleaded not guilty.

The Postville Police Department says the shooting March 13th sent two victims to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their investigation alleges 19-year-old Ayale Abdullahi Ali and 23-year-old Mohamed Nour, both of Postville, forced entry into the apartment of one of the victims, who was shot in the face and leg. Ali is accused of firing the weapon during an altercation motivated by an incident between the parties the night before.

Ali and Nour are both charged with attempted murder and first-degree burglary, both Class B felonies. Ali was also charged with reckless use of a firearm with serious injury, a Class C felony; and going armed with intent, a Class D felony.

Friday, both men entered not guilty pleas and Nour waived his right to a speedy trial while Ali demanded a speedy trial.

Monday, Ali’s trial date was set for May 17th while Nour’s trial date is scheduled for July 19th, both in Allamakee County District Court.

Also on Monday, Nour’s bail was modified to $50,000 cash, but he could be released with a 10% deposit and pretrial supervision. Ali’s bail is currently $75,000 cash-only bond, but he was granted a bond review hearing set for April 10th.
