Chickasaw County Weighs Options for Third Ambulance

The end of April will mark the first four months of operation for the new Chickasaw County EMS department and its public ambulance service.

Thus far, the County has been running with two rigs. Adding a third ambulance was discussed again by the Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors during their meeting Monday (04.24) morning.

EMS Director Joel Knutson continued to stress the importance of having a third ambulance in the event one of the current rigs was out of service.

Knutson added that not having a third rig could also  lead to unfortunate outcomes for citizens.

Knutson has previously told Supervisors that a third ambulance would also be financially beneficial by allowing for more medical transfers that average about $4,000 each in revenue for the County

Knutson presented the Board a possible used 2000 rig for purchase, but Supervisors agreed that they weren’t comfortable buying a model that old. They voted to have Knutson continue pursuing a third rig to buy, but they would like him to send out Request for Proposals (RFPs) for used ambulances that are in the range of 2010 models to newer.
