Charles City Rotary Club Holds Annual Awards Night

The Charles City Rotary Club held their annual Awards and Recognition Banquet Monday night at the Elk’s Lodge in Charles City.  After an inspirational program by author Aaron Putze of Waukee, Club President Kay Winkelman led the recognition of Rotarians and community members for their volunteer efforts.

Julie Taylor and Jacie Peichel presented Jamie Lewis the Sam Soifer Community Service Award for his many hours of service to the PAWS Humane Society of Charles City.

Winkelman presented Jim Davis with the Leo Lidd Vocational Service Award for his many years of business leadership in the community.  Davis said he was thankful for the recognition.

The club named Jessie Schulz as the Paul Garthwaite Rotarian of the Year winner.  Schulz, who will serve as the club’s President in 2024, said she enjoys being part of a group that does so much for the community.

Rotarian Mark Wicks presented 3 students with one-thousand dollar scholarships.  The winners were Hanna DeVore, Lilly Luft and Natalie White.

Winkelman presented the President’s Award to Jim Coloff of Coloff Media, in recognition of radio station KCHA’s contribution of promotion and radio time for the annual Rotary Radio Auction held every year in February on KCHA.  The auction has raised over $79-thousand dollars since it started in 2010.  Coloff said the recognition should go to the dedicated staff of the station that have made it happen each year.

The awards banquet also marked the finish of Winkelman’s second year leading the local service club.  She said she is most proud of the club’s focus on community service during her leadership of the group, and a potential international project they are planning in honor of their late club member, Sue Ayers.

The Charles City Rotary Club meets every Monday at Noon at the Charles City Elk’s Lodge, and membership is open to community members interested in fellowship and community service.
