...SIGNIFICANT BLOWING SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR

strong wind gusts persisting into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts over
50 mph are expected. Much of the area has 6 inches or more of snow
on the ground. While there may be an initial crust on the top layer
of the snow, it will erode quickly leading to significant blowing and
drifting of snow. Near white-out and blizzard conditions may occur.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Light snow and snow showers
are possible. Winds gusts over 50 mph are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest,
and west central Iowa.

* WHEN...From late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Whiteout conditions are
possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially nearly
impossible and life-threatening. The hazardous conditions could
impact the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down
tree branches.

Instructions: Prepare for possible blizzard conditions. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.

Osage Woman Wins “Best in Show” of Area Show: 49 Art Competition, Exhibition

A charcoal drawing by an Osage woman has been selected “Best in Show” of the Area Show: 49 competition at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City.

The exhibition competition was open to all artists above high school age within 100 miles of Mason City. All entrants were able to submit up to two works of any media. This year’s show drew a total of 99 entries by 53 artists and the final exhibition includes 41 works by 38 artists.

With the Best in Show award handed out Saturday (04.20) for her piece, The Praying Man, Mary Ann Marreel of Osage will be granted a solo exhibition at the museum in 2025.

Artists receiving $250 Excellence Awards include Larry Gregson and Kirk Ketelson, both of Mason City, and Lori Biwer-Stewart of Osage.

The Area Show: 49 will remain on view in the Museum’s Kinney-Lindstrom Gallery through June 19th.
