Players Change in Trial for Man Accused of North Iowa Murder 10 Years Ago

It’s been over 10 years since the murder of 70-year-old Kenneth Gallmeyer in his home north of Nashua. 

Now 51, Randy Patrie is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Gallmeyer, sometime between September 25 and October 4, 2012. An investigation by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Charles City Police and Iowa DCI, found various items owned by Gallmeyer inside Patrie’s Charles City home, including a shotgun believed to have killed Gallmeyer.

Patrie’s trial is currently slated to start January 25th in Chickasaw County District Court, but last week a motion was approved to cancel the pre-trial hearing for December 13th and it was moved to January 17th. That would open the door to a new trial date, which Patrie’s attorney has asked that it be after August of next year “based on counsel’s schedule.”

Chickasaw County Sheriff Marty Hemann says that while the “players” have changed for the prosecution, he’s confident in the outcome against Patrie in the courtroom.

Hemann himself is also set to bow out prior to Patrie’s case heading to trial. He is retiring January 20th.

Patrie is being held in the Fayette County Jail in West Union awaiting trial.
