City Leases Parking Lot for Construction of NIACC Charles City Career Academy
Before building the NIACC Career Academy in Charles City can begin, crews need a place for their construction equipment.
NIACC’s Board of Trustees has contracted with Woodruff Construction of Waterloo for about $4.8 million to expand their current Charles City center, just east of Hy-Vee, and add the academy to the south.
NIACC President Dr. Steve Schutz says they hope to begin construction as soon as weather allows them to break ground.
In advance of the construction, the Charles City City Council Wednesday night approved leasing part of the adjacent parking lot; giving crews room to store and move equipment during the course of construction.
City Administrator Steve Diers told the Council that the loss of parking spaces should be minimal.
The lease of the parking lot will cost NIACC $500 total from March 1st this year through May 31, 2024.
Schulz says the Career Academy, a partnership which also includes Nashua-Plainfield, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Riceville, North Butler, Clarksville and Osage school districts, should be ready for students by the fall of 2024.
