Floyd, Butler, Franklin, Winneshiek Counties Under Burn Bans

Floyd and Butler counties are under state-ordered burn bans due to extremely dry weather conditions.

Tuesday, the Office of the State Fire Marshal received requests from Floyd County Emergency Management Director Jason Webster and Butler County EMA Director Chris Showalter to prohibit open burning in each of their counties.

Webster says they also received input from outside the county as well when submitting their request.

The State Fire Marshal says conditions in Floyd and Butler counties are such that open burning constitutes a danger to life or property. Thus, no person shall engage in open burning in, effective as of noon, Tuesday, April 11h, except as specifically permitted by Iowa code.

Webster says the burn ban will continue until conditions improve.

And while the burn bans are in effect for Floyd and Butler counties, Webster advises the public its dry everywhere.

Any violation of the burn ban is a simple misdemeanor.

Burn bans are also now in effect for Winneshiek County(since 10 am Thursday) and Franklin County(since 4:30 pm Thursday).
