Groundbreaking for construction of the new NIACC Career Academy in Charles City Friday also came with a sizable donation.
In a promotional video, NIACC President Dr. Steve Schulz salutes First Security Bank and the First Security Charitable Foundation for contributing $125,000 to the project.
The new Career Academy will be an expansion of the existing NIACC Center in Charles City to provide local high school students with hands-on
experience and college-level education in in-demand career fields including health care, advanced manufacturing, construction, and IT.
Matt Bradley, First Security Marketing Manager, said of the bank’s contribution, “We have a lot of very talented young people in North Iowa, but too often they think they have to leave home to get a good career. We think this is a vital step in giving our local graduates incentive to stay close to home and improve our local community.”
Career Academy courses will be tuition-free for students in the Charles City, Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler, Osage, Riceville, and RRMR school districts.
Construction was scheduled to begin Monday and be completed by the end of March 2024.
