Charles City Speed Camera Warnings Exceed 10,000 During “Grace Period”

On March 11th, four traffic enforcement cameras were activated in Charles City in an effort to crack down on speeding within City limits.

Police Chief Hugh Anderson says the grace period in which motorists caught speeding were only issued warning tickets is over, although it went longer than the 30 days initially anticipated.

Anderson adds that some drivers may have been “testing” the system.

Still, Anderson says the speed cameras appear to have had the desired impact on driving habits.

The traffic enforcement cameras in Charles City are located on South Grand Avenue by 11th Street, Highway 14 by South Iowa Street, Highway 18 by L Street and Gilbert Street as you leave or enter town.

Speed violators are now receiving real tickets with fines.
