Drought Status Holds Across North Iowa

There has been no significant changes in the drought status across north and northeast Iowa, but conditions have not worsened either, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor for Iowa.

Based on precipitation through 7 am Tuesday, April 30th, all of Floyd County and the northern two-thirds of Chickasaw County are holding steady in the D2/severe drought category, but that improvement over the past two weeks comes after months of D3/extreme drought. an improvement. However, the southern third of Chickasaw County, roughly three-quarters of Bremer  County and the western third of Fayette County remain in extreme drough .  

The majority of Winneshiek County holds in the D1/moderate drought  category, along with the northeast half of Howard County and southwest half of Allamakee County. The northeast half of Allamakee County is rated in D0/abnormally dry.

Much of the remainder of the region is rated in D2/severe drought.
