Road Construction Season in High Gear in North Iowa

Road construction season is in full swing across north Iowa.

Pete Hjelmstad with the Mason City District office of the Iowa DOT says construction involves a number of area bridges.

Hjelmstad says a number of crack-filling jobs should wrap up by mid-May for sections of U.S. Highway 18 between Plainfield and Waverly; Iowa 24 between New Hampton and Jackson Junction, and Highway 9 between Decorah and Ridgeway and from Highway 63 to Cresco. Road resurfacing is also in progress for a nine-mile stretch of Highway 3 from Hampton east into Butler County that is expected to last into August.

To keep up with those construction projects and see how they could impact your travel, Hjelmstad highly recommends checking www.511IA.org or download the Iowa 511 app.

Hjelmstad also reminds motorists to be alert when driving through construction zones for your safety and the safety of road workers.
