Law Enforcement Takes Flight Monday in Northeast Iowa

Law enforcement takes to the skies Monday in northeast Iowa.

That’s Trooper Tom Williams with the Iowa State Patrol’s Mason City District Office, who says Monday’s flight patrols will include a special emphasis on Iowa’s new “Move Over” law.

Williams adds that they’ll also be on the lookout for speeding and poor passing by motorists.

The Iowa State Patrol, along with local enforcement agencies including the Charles City, Osage, and Mason City police departments, plus Floyd, Chickasaw, and Howard County sheriff’s offices, will also continue with the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to crack down on impaired drivers.

That National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) high-visibility enforcement campaign continues through July 5th.

According to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), last year in Iowa, 57% of the July 4th holiday weekend traffic fatalities were alcohol related.
