Two Minnesotans Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Floyd County

A female juvenile was one of two people from Minnesota killed in a two-vehicle, head-on crash in Floyd County during the holiday weekend.

The Iowa State Patrol said the wreck occurred at about 4 pm Sunday afternoon near mile marker 209 on Highway 18, just east of Floyd. A vehicle driven by 37-year-old Jenna Stangland of Minneapolis was eastbound when it crossed the center line and, despite attempts to avoid the collision, struck the westbound vehicle driven by 74-year-old Steven York of Waconia, Minnesota.

York and 16-year-old Keira Duffy of Golden Valley, Minnesota, died in the crash.

Stengland and 74-year-old Mary York, also of Waconia, were taken to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City for treatment of their injuries. York was transported by MercyOne AirMed.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Floyd and Colwell Fire Departments, and AMR Ambulance also responded to the scene.
