Charles City Swimming Pool Staff Honored with PLaque for Life-Saving Efforts

A potentially deadly situation was averted last month at Lions Field Swimming Pool in Charles City.

Early on the afternoon of June 15th, a five-year-old girl was drowning in the pool when lifeguards staff sprang into action and successfully resuscitated the girl.

Monday, those efforts were honored with a plaque at the pool presented by the Park-Rec Board, which reads:

“Congratulations to ALL pool staff for the lifesaving performance on June 15, 2023. The skills implemented indicate your dedication to training, certifying and understanding the seriousness of duties which may be imposed on you at any moment.”

Lifeguards who helped with rescue included Mario Hoefer, Lilly Luft, and Destiny Kolheim, but Park-Rec Director Tyler Mitchell says the plaque honors any of the pool’s lifeguards who are ready to do their job in case of an emergency.
