Floyd County Supervisors Hear from New Wind Turbine Project
Already targeted by two carbon capture pipeline companies, Floyd County is also being eyed by a pair of new wind turbine projects.
During their regular meeting Monday (08.28), Floyd County Supervisors heard from Isaac Lamppa about the Floyd County Wind Farm proposed by Invenergy, the same company that started construction of the Chickasaw Wind Energy Center earlier this year.
In getting landowners signed up, Lamppa said Invenergy’s approach is not like that of carbon pipeline companies, Summit Carbon Solutions and Navigator CO2 Ventures.
Invenergy is proposing the Floyd County Wind Farm be in an area south of a line from Floyd to Rudd, towards Marble Rock, down to the Floyd-Butler County line, and west and southwest of Charles City. Lamppa said construction isn’t expected to begin until 2026.
During their meeting Monday, August 21st, Floyd County Supervisors heard from NextEra Energy, which has begun seeking easements with landowners for the Rudd Wind turbine farm in the northwest section of the County, a project that could include up to 100 wind turbines.
MidAmerican Energy owns the 50-plus wind turbines south of Charles City and, in June, purchased the Chickasaw Wind Energy Farm.
