Governor Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Fallen North Iowa Firefighter, Others

Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to fly at half-staff at sunrise on Friday (10.27) until sunset on Monday (10.30).

The move honors a fallen member of the Ionia Fire Department, as well as the multiple shooting victims in Lewiston, Maine.

43-year-old Anthony “Tony” Hoffman of Ionia was killed in a traffic crash last Sunday (10.22) while responding to a fire. Hoffman had served with the department for 17 years.

In a press release Governor Reynolds said, “Iowa is stronger because of Anthony Hoffman who volunteered to put his life on the line to protect his community. As we lower flags, lets honor his legacy and service.”

Funeral services for Hoffman will be held at 8 p.m. Friday (10.27) at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia. Friends may greet the family prior to the service from 3 to 8 pm. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton is in charge of funeral arrangements.
