Clayton Lowell Lines, born on March 20, 1935, to Lowell and Doris Gail Hubbard Lines in Charles City, Iowa, left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Clayton graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1953, showcasing his resilience in the face of adversity as he battled Rheumatic Fever, which led him to miss the final weeks of his senior year. Despite health challenges preventing him from serving in the United States Armed Services, Clayton dedicated many years to farming alongside his father, Lowell.

His career took a turn when he started driving grain trucks for Danny Hillman Trucking, collecting farm grain for delivery to River Terminals. Later, Clayton transitioned to driving for Bush Hog, transporting White tractor parts from the Charles City Plant to Cold Water, Ohio, with a driving partner, Gene. He retired due to health problems, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and determination.

On April 16, 1966, Clayton married the love of his life, Marvelyn Ashley. Their love story began at the Surf Ballroom, and they continued to share their passion for dancing throughout the years. Clayton is survived by his devoted wife Marvelyn, his sons Roy (Kelli) and Brian (Amy Michelle), and his daughter Amy Carol (Wayne Schubert). He leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren Ethan, Logan, Ashley, Cayden, Weston, and Brennon, as well as great-grandchildren Carter, Jaydean, Lilli, and River Reighn.

Clayton is preceded in death by his parents Lowell and Gail Lines, parents-in-law Frank and Frances Ashley, brother-in-law Martin Ashley, and grandson Everette Griffin Lines. Clayton’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will forever be etched in the fabric of the Marble Rock community.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
