Illinois Man Accused of Stealing $50K from North Iowa Trucking Company

An Illinois man has been accused of stealing over $50,000 from the north Iowa trucking company.

According to court records, the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office received a report June 8th that numerous blank business checks stolen from Ivan Johnson Trucking in Osage were being cashed.  Investigators say four checks were forged totaling almost $54,000 in the amount and were deposited into accounts belonging to 47-year-old Robert Higgins of Bellwood, Illinois, and another individual. One of the checks was for almost $30,000.

The Sheriff’s Office says the checks were written without the consent or authorization of the trucking company and a criminal complaint was filed against Higgins on June 16th. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant in Chicago on November 18th.

Higgins is facing charges of second-degree theft, conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, and forgery, all felonies.

Higgins was released from custody after posting bail of $10,000 cash.
