North Iowa 14-Year-Old Dies in Farm Mishap

A north Iowa 14-year-old has died in a farming mishap.

Howard County Sheriff Tim Beckman says the incident occurred at about 5 pm Tuesday m(02.20) in the 20,000 block of Addison Avenue, about 10 miles west of Elma. Initial reports indicated that a juvenile boy had been pinned underneath a tractor, but Beckman says it appears the family was taking a large steel wheel off of a tractor when the steel wheel tipped over on top of the teen.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and a Howard County medical examiner determined his death was accidental.

The identity of the deceased was not released.

The Iowa State Patrol, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Riceville and Elma ambulances, Elma Fire Department, and Howard County First Responders also assisted at the scene.
