FCMC Breaks Ground in Charles City on $40 Million Expansion

Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) officially launched construction on a $40 million dollar expansion project Tuesday (06.11)

That’s FCMC chief executive officer Dawnette Willis speaking during groundbreaking ceremonies in Charles City, who noted various improvements the project will bring to the main hospital, which will also be connected to the new three-story Rural Health Family Practice clinic.

Willis says construction of the new entrance will be the first noticeable construction to impact hospital operations, which could begin in late July or early August.

Charles City Mayor Dean Andrews also addressed the crowd in saluting the FCMC expansion.

The project also includes new speech and occupational therapy, and hospital pharmacy departments, plus conference and training rooms, with updates and expansions also targeted for the lab department as well as improvements to accommodate future oncology infusions.

The new clinic will also include Obstetrics and Urgent Care, plus a new Outpatient Specialist Clinic.

Completion of the project is anticipated for the spring of 2026.
