Primary Election Tuesday Comes with Changes

The primary elections Tuesday come with a number of new state and house legislative districts, several which have split portions of counties into different districts.

The new districts were approved by the state lawmakers after the Legislative Services Agency (LSA) redrew the districts a second time based on the 2020 census.

That’s Floyd County Auditor Gloria Carr, who says because of splits like that, plus with Floyd County the switch to electing three supervisors from three equal districts, voters should have received a postcard confirming their precinct location, which may have changed.

Carr notes that all ballots Tuesday must be cast in your assigned voting precinct, with all polls open for the same time frame.

Voters who wish to cast an absentee ballot in person have until 5 p.m. today to do so at your county auditor’s office and all absentee ballots must be received in your county auditor’s office by 8 p.m. Tuesday. Ballots received after that will not be counted.

Contact your county auditor’s office if you have any questions.
