Chickasaw County to Appoint Interim County Auditor

Chickasaw County will appoint an interim replacement for outgoing County Auditor Stephanie Mashek.

The Board of Supervisors this week voted to publish their intent to appoint someone to take over for Mashek, who’s resignation is effective this Saturday, July 30th. Supervisor Jacob Hackman told the Board that a candidate approached him about the appointment, but the candidate, who was not identified, won’t be available until August 29th.

The Board is slated to officially appoint that person on August 8th, but other individuals may still submit their interest in the position by August 5th. Normally, in the event of such an appointment, a petition could be submitted for a special election to fill the post. However, since the vacancy comes so close to the November general election, the special election can not be held.

Appointment or not, the general election in November will determine who fills Mashek’s position full-time. Until the appointed County Auditor can take over, County Treasurer Sue Breitbach assumes the duties of that office.
