Minnesota Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Weekend Crash in North Iowa

A Minnesota man was killed in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend in north Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the collision occurred just north of Buffalo Center in Winnebago County shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday. 61-year-old Dean Balvance of Buffalo Center was northbound when he attempted to turn his Ford F250 pickup into a residence on 20th Avenue. However, his truck turned into the path of a southbound Ford Fusion driven by 78-year-old Richard Hensel of Monticello, Minnesota.

Hensel died in the wreck while his wife, 77-year-old Gloria Hensel, was transported by Buffalo Center Ambulance to a Blue Earth, Minnesota, hospital. Balvance was injured and taken to the same hospital by Forest City Ambulance.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Dave’s Towing Service and Oak Crest Funeral Home also assisted at the scene
