Floyd County Supervisors Decline Pay Raise

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors will not take a pay raise for the 2023-24 fiscal year.

Last week, Supervisors discussed not accepting the pay raises of 7.1% proposed by the County Compensation Board.  During their regular meeting Monday (02.06), they finalized their decision, but not until after Supervisor Dennis Keifer expressed a concern he heard while attending a recent statewide Supervisors meeting.

In arguing to keep their salaries stagnant, Supervisor Chair Mark Kuhn also noted that Floyd County Supervisors rank 35th in salaries in the state, but only 49th in total county population.

Keifer then motioned to reduce the Compensation Board recommended wage increases by 100% and it was passed by a 3-0 vote. By code, Supervisors had to approve the move no less than 30 days prior to the County’s next fiscal budget being certified.

Last year, then-Supervisors Doug Kamm, Linda Tjaden and Roy Schwickerath also took no pay raises for the 2022-23 fiscal year. Thus, individual Supervisor salaries will again hold steady at just over $40,000 a year.
