Trial Delayed for Woman Accused of Attacking Husband with Swords

Trial has been delayed for a northeast Iowa woman charged with attempted murder after she allegedly attacked her husband with a pair of swords.

On January 18th, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic assault at a residence near Hawkeye, leading to the arrest of 59-year-old Kim Cannon for attempted murder, a Class B felony.

According to court documents, Cannon was found sitting on the floor of the kitchen with blood on her face and sweatshirt and two bloody swords next to her. Cannon’s husband was on the bathroom floor with three large cuts to the face, including one through the eye socket, plus several cuts to the back of his head. Investigators say Cannon admitted to hitting her husband in the back of the head until he fell to the floor, then striking him several times in the face while he was on the floor.

Cannon has since pleaded not guilty and waived her right to a speedy trial, which had been set for May 10th in Fayette County District Court. However, Monday, a continuance motion was granted and the trial date has been reset for June 1st.
