Cresco Police Alert Public to Potential Scams

The Cresco Police Department is alerting the public to a variety of possible scams.

A CPD Facebook post says, “There have been an abundance of “spam” posts going around Facebook, including but not limited to: missing dogs, catalytic converter thefts, children trying to find their biological parents, missing persons, etc. that are not true or correct and are asking you to either click on the link or share. Unless it comes from an official page, it is more than likely a scam. To ensure someone is not getting scammed out of money, do not share these links.”

The post also includes an example of a “rent to own” home that has been going around for sale groups. CPD notes that If the original poster just became part of the group, OR the comments are turned off on the original post, it is most likely SCAM and should not be distributed.

If you suspect a possible scam, you’re encouraged to contact law enforcement.
