Charles City Volunteer Woman, Man of the Year Announced

The Charles City woman and man of the year honorees were announced Friday during the Community Volunteer Recognition Event at the Charles City Senior Center.

Hosted by the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Charles City, Phoebe Pittman was named 2022 Woman of the Year, while Barry Levey was honored as Charles City’s Man of the Year for 2022. 

Other top award recipients include Emily Garden for both the Charles City Area Development Corporation Volunteer of the Year and Hometown Hero Award. Tami Vetter was named Main Street Charles City Volunteer of the Year.

 Caught in the Act awards, given to those seen doing unselfish acts for others in the community this past year, went to Kim Collins Scott, Jessica and Sam Gintz, Shelby Schwarzkopf and her first grade students at I.C. School, Pat Ohlerking, William Vetter and all of the many RAGBRAI volunteers in 2022.

Other non-profit entities each recognized their respective volunteers of the year, including Amy Joslin (Lincoln Elementary), Nikki Udhe (Washington Elementary), Carol Tyler (Congregate Meals), Jan Jung (Charles Theatre), and the trio of Ivadell Stevenson, Charlotte Nehls and Karen Nolte (Senior Center.) The Foster Grandparent Program honored Diane Winters of Charles City, along with several other volunteers from their other counties, while TLC: The Learning Center recognized the large group of people who helped make their relocation and expansion project possible.
