October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mammograms Encouraged

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Chickasaw County Public Health Administrator Lisa Welter says early detection of possible breast cancer is vital.

Welter says knowing risk factors can also help with early detection.

Regular mammograms can also go a long way towards early detection of breast cancer. Joanie Behnke, Director of Radiology at Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) says FCMC offers three types of screenings.

If finances are an issue, Welter notes that Care for Yourself is available in Chickasaw, Howard, Mitchell, Bremer and Butler counties.

For more information on Care for Yourself, call Nancy Hemann at 319-346-6575.

As always, if you have questions, you can contact your physician and/or your local public health department.
