Chickasaw County Supervisors Deny ARPA Funding Requests

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors has denied a handful of requests for County ARPA dollars from various cities across the County.

During their regular meeting Monday (08.07), Supervisors considered requests of $50,000 in County ARPA funding for various infrastructure projects from each of the cities of Alta Vista, Lawler and North Washington. The City of Ionia also sought $30,000 for improvements to their City ballpark.

The requests come in the wake of the Board’s approval of $50,000 in ARPA money to the City of Nashua, which asked for help in paying to evaluate the health of the dam that creates Cedar Lake.

Supervisor Chair Matt Kuhn said contributing to other cities would be the fair thing to do.

Supervisor Steven Breitbach noted that the requests by Alta Vista, Ionia, Lawler and North Washington were all valid needs for the funds.

However, all four ARPA requests were voted down with Kuhn and Breitbach both voting yes on each individual request and Supervisors Jacob Hackman, Scott Cerwinske and Travis Suckow all voting no to each request.
