Mason City Man Killed Driving Wrong Way on I-35

A north Iowa man is dead after the car he was driving the wrong way on Interstate 35 collided with a semi over the weekend.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 11:30 pm Saturday night (04.27) near mile marker 194 in Cerro Gordo County. The crash report says a car driven by 56-year-old Glen Hemming of Mason City was going north in the southbound lanes of I-35 when it smashed into a southbound semi driven by 40-year-old Hussein Haidar, of Burnsville, Minnesota.

The State Patrol says Hemming was not wearing a seatbelt and died from the injuries he suffered in the collision. There’s no indication if Haidar suffered any injuries.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Clear Lake Police Department, Clear Lake Fire Department, and Clear Lake Ambulance all assisted with the crash, which is under investigation.
