Charles City High School Kitchen Resolves Inspection Issues

During an October 11th visit, a state health inspector cited the kitchen at Charles City High School for a handful of violations.

Mike Butler is the regional director of operations for Southwest Foodservice Excellence, which manages the kitchen. He says two of the violations were due to the absence of the certified food manager the day of the inspection.

Butler says they will get additional people certified so that a backup food manager is available.

Other violations included four food temperature-related issues, which Butler says will result in more training for staff.

According to an Iowa Capital Dispatch story, the inspector also reported that the buckets labeled “sanitizer” had no measurable amount of sanitizing solution in them.

Butler says all issues have been resolved and they were given the approval of the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals on October 25th.

Butler notes that high school kitchens are inspected, on average, once a quarter, the same schedule as restaurants.
