Charles City Mobile Food Pantry Adds More Mobility

The Charles City Mobile Food Pantry (CCMFP) is becoming more mobile.

The Mobile Pantry, through the Northeast Iowa food Bank, visits Charles City the first Wednesday of the month at the Youth Enrichment Center (YEC) on the Floyd County Fairgrounds, with drive-thru distribution of food.

Site coordinator Jenn Burton says CCMFP is collaborating with St. John Evangelical Church in Charles City to supplement the service with a new delivery option for households lacking transportation to get to the YEC.  Food delivery, which begins with the November 1st distribution, will be available to those eligible on a first-come-first-served basis, which will be limited initially to the first 10 households to sign up.

Burton adds that if your household has been able to make it to the pantry at the fairgrounds, either with alternate transportation or pickup arrangements, please, continue that arrangement. There will be enough food to go around.

Burton says they have averaged around 170 households with the drive-thru distribution and the goal of the delivery service is to serve more people in need. It also offers some an alternative to the no-longer-available Meals on Wheels program.

Delivery service is available within a five-mile radius of Charles City.
