Nashua Gets New City Councilman, Future of Mayor Post Undecided

The City of Nashua is getting a new councilman while remaining in a holding pattern on their Mayor position.
Last month, City Clerk John Ott informed the City Council that he had received a resignation letter from Mayor Alex Anthofer effective immediately. Anthofer has cited family as his only reason to leave office with two years left in his term.
During their meeting Monday (11.06) night, the council discussed filling the open mayor seat, but decided more information needs to be gathered to find out who may be interested in becoming Mayor.   Â
To fill the position, the City could call for a special election to elect a new Mayor or they could appoint someone to office. Even with an appointment, the public could petition for a special election
In the interim, Mayor Pro Tempore Harold Kelleher will be the acting Mayor, who won re-election Tuesday (11.07) to fill an At-large vacancy on the Council; registering 120 votes to 83 votes for Nick Henningsen.
Also on Tuesday, Dan Zwanziger was elected to a City Council At-Large position after garnering the most votes among seven candidates. Zwanziger led with 171 votes followed by incumbents Jacob Johnson and Samantha Johnson, who won re-election with 108 and 88 ballots, respectively.Â
(Results unofficial until officially canvassed.)
