New Hampton Community Meeting Tuesday Night (02.13) on NEIC/UIC

The New Hampton School District will host a community meeting to discuss the Chickasaws’ conference options moving forward.

New Hampton is currently a member of the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC), but has been invited to join the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC), starting with the 2025-26 school year. The public is invited to share their thoughts on the Chickasaws’ future conference membership at 6:30 pm Tuesday night in the elementary school auditorium.

Last week, the UIC accepted Cresco-Crestwood in their league, with the Cadets to depart the NEIC after the 2024-25 season and join the UIC starting with the 2025-26 school, bringing membership to 10 teams.

The NEIC’s  Waukon has also been invited to join the UIC, which hopes to form a  “large school division” with Waukon, Crestwood, New Hampton, North Fayette Valley, MFL Mar-Mac and South Winneshiek and a “small school division” of Postville, Clayton Ridge, Elkader Central, Turkey Valley, Lansing Kee and West Central.

The UIC letter of invitation to New Hampton and Waukon requests a response by March 1st.

Crestwood, Waukon, New Hampton, Charles City, Decorah, and Waverly-Shell Rock make up the NEIC currently, although WSR is slated to depart the league after June 30th. Crestwood Superintendent Kris Einck says the NEIC will move forward next year with just five teams.

Monday (02.12) night, the Charles City School Board voted to submit their application to join the North Central Conference (NCC).
