Active Shooter Drill Monday (03.04) in Osage School District

Just over a month after a possible threat prompted students and staff to “shelter in place,” the Osage School District is set to conduct an “active shooter” drill.

In a letter to parents and community members, Superintendent Barb Schwamann says the “Active Shooter/Rescue Task Force Drill” will be conducted from 5 to 9 pm Monday (03.04) night at Osage Middle and High School. The exercise is “an essential component of our emergency preparedness efforts.”

Schwamann also notes that no students or staff will be present in the building during the drill, which will also involve the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, the Osage police and fire departments, and Mitchell County Emergency Management. Additional support is being provided by Mitchell County Regional Health Center, EMTs, paramedics and Mitchell County Public Health.

The public should also be prepared for increased emergency vehicle traffic in the vicinity of the school Monday night.

On January 30th, students and staff in Osage schools were ordered to “shelter in place” for about an hour-and-a-half while authorities investigated a possible threat, which was eventually determined as not credible.
