Charles City Looking for Next Fire Chief

For the second time in less than a year-and-a-half, Charles City Fire Rescue is looking for a new fire chief.

Current Chief Marty Parcher came out of retirement in November 2022 to take over the department following the departure of then-Chief Eric Whipple, who left to become the director of Emergency Management in Cerro Gordo County. According to a Charles City Police Department Facebook post, Parcher would like to get back to his retirement.

The City of Charles City is now accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief. A candidate must have five years of experience in a fire department, OR three years in a fire department with two years of comparable experience and/or educational training. The successful candidate should have a strong management background and strong leadership skills. 

The Fire Chief would supervise a volunteer department of about 25 firefighters as well as oversee the everyday operations of the department including public outreach, budget, maintenance and more. 

The salary range is $65,000 to $80,000 annually depending on qualifications.
