Charles City Main Street Project Won’t Cancel 4th of July Parade

Preliminary work started last week for the resurfacing and rehabilitation of North Main Street in Charles City.

Among the top questions for citizens related to the project are “When will it be done?” and “Will there be a Fourth of July Parade.”

Charles City Chamber of Commerce Director Mark Wicks says the parade will go on.

Wicks says the preference is to keep the parade on Main Street, but even if that’s the case, that route already needed to be altered.

Putting the entire parade on Clark Street is also an option, but Wicks says that comes with its own imitations.

Wicks adds that, while it’s possible work on the Main Street project could still allow the parade along its normal route downtown, he won’t count on it, but they’ll remain flexible until a final determination is made.

While the parade route remains up in the air, Wicks says there will still be Fourth of July Weekend festivities in Central Park.
